This is also the 11th straight appearance in the finals for the Tornadoes. A victory Friday at UTC’s Finley Stadium would be their 10th in the last 11 tries. Again, just an amazing mark for program which has no idea what the word complacency means.

1ST QUARTER
Alcoa strikes first in this Class-3A state title game. After being forced to punt on their first offensive possession, the Tornadoes went on defense and and applied pressure on the Eagles immediately and on 3rd and 12, quarterback Martez Lamb was forced out of the pocket, threw it up for grabs and was intercepted by freshman Micah Jones, who returns it 43 yards for a touchdown. The PAT was good giving Alcoa an early 7-0 lead in Chattanooga.
Alcoa picks off another East Nashville pass, as Demauri Dubose returns the pick down to the East Nash 35. That’s two Alcoa freshman DBs with INTs today.
The interception would lead to Alcoa’s first offensive TD of the day as on 3rd and goal from the 4 yard line on a TD pass from Eli Graf to Mr. Football finalist Brandon Winton. PAT extends lead to 14-0 with 3:38 to go in the 1st quarter.
East Nashville responds with a nice 80 yard drive in 5plays, most of the damage on the ground capped off by a 4 yard TD run cutting the Alcoa lead to 14-7 with 2:28 remaining in the 1st quarter.
2ND QUARTER
It’s QB Eli Graf with a Screen pass to Elijah Cannon for a touchdown. It was a job by Cannon breaking the initial tackle try by East Nashville and then weaving through traffic for the score. Alcoa 21, East Nashville 7 — 11:45 to go in the 2nd quarter.

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. — Black Salmon and LD&D plan to co-develop Gallery Haus, a 23-story multifamily tower in the Tampa Bay city of St. Petersburg. The $115 million project will be located at 155 17th St. S, which is adjacent to the upcoming $6.5 billion overhaul of Tropicana Field, the home ballpark of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Black Salmon and LD&D purchased the 0.8-acre site last month for a little more than $9 million. The duo plan to break ground on Gallery Haus in the fourth quarter. The project will include 10,000 square feet of amenities and coworking space, as well as 5,000 square feet of ground-level retail space.
SAN ANTONIO — An affiliate of locally based investment firm LYND Group has purchased Culebra Commons, a 327-unit mixed-income apartment community in San Antonio’s Far West submarket, for $76.2 million. The garden-style property was originally developed in 2021 by a different affiliate of LYND Group and offers one-, two- and three-bedroom units with an average size of 835 square feet. About half the units have been reserved as affordable housing. Amenities include a pool, fitness center, clubroom, resident lounge, catering kitchen, playground and a dog park.

Beginning July 9, the center will operate under regular hours: 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m.-6p.m. on Sunday.

Joe was born, March 13, 1949 in Opelika, Alabama to the late Rev. J.L. Colquitt, Sr. and the late Essie Mae Butler Colquitt; his parents moved to Knoxville, TN when he was young. Joe was born, March 13, 1949 in Opelika, Alabama to the late Rev. J.L. Colquitt, Sr. and the late Essie Mae Butler Colquitt; his parents moved to Knoxville, TN when he was young. He graduated in 1967 from Austin High School in Knoxville, TN. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1971. He briefly attended Knoxville Business College and left to work full-time as a certified pipe fitter Welder for the K-25 plant in Oak Ridge, TN.
Joe accepted Christ in his early 20s and received his calling to the ministry soon afterwards. He was affectionately known as one of the, “Sons of Thunder” because of his powerful, anointed preaching; he was licensed and ordained by his father and served as his father’s Assistant at the New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Dante for five years.
In 1980, Joe was called to pastor St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Alcoa, TN, where he served faithfully for over30 years. By faith, he led the members of St. John to build a beautiful edifice which stands as a significant part of his legacy.
To further his understanding of God’s Word, Joe attended and graduated from Johnson University in Knoxville, TN with a B.A. and M.S. He also earned a Doctorate of Ministry from Covington Seminary in Oglethorpe, GA.
In addition to pastoring, Joe was blessed to serve others in numerous ways, including international mission trips to Nigeria and Belize, preaching revivals across the country, leading a local prison ministry, teaching, working as a Chaplain and patient advocate at UT Medical Center and Blount Memorial Hospital.
After his retirement from St. John, Joe took some years off to reflect and worship with other pastors in the Knoxville Area. He was eventually led to start Shekinah Glory Worship Center to continue preaching and teaching. He was a faithful pastor until his death.
Preceded in death by parents, Rev. J. L. Colquitt, Sr. and Essie Mae Butler Colquitt; sister, Nancy Lee Colquitt Littlejohn.
He leaves to cherish his memories, loving devoted wife, Jeanette (whom he affectionately called, “Minnie Mae”); children, Candice (Adrian) Dendy, Renee Colquitt, both of Knoxville, TN; Joe Nath Colquitt of Charlotte, NC; Michelle Colquitt, Mt. Juliet, TN; and Michael (Cristen), Smyrna, TN; siblings, Johnnie Mae Harris, Johnny Colquitt, Jr., Lizzie Littlejohn, James (Esther) Colquitt, and Rose (Quentin) Ashford, all of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Gabreille, Payton, Taylen, Michael, Raina, Tylie, and Bailey; three great-grandchildren, a host of other relatives, colleagues, friends, and preachers of the Gospel; a special thanks to, home healthcare nurses, Destiny Ballew and Lakeesha Hovey; and sons in the ministry for their love and support. Despite everything that Joe has been through, he would truly say, “To God Be The Glory!”

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Tennessee Department of Transportation broke ground Tuesday on the newest phase of the Alcoa Highway project.
This phase will cover the stretch of Alcoa Highway between Woodson Drive to Cherokee Trail. The phase is expected to be completed in Fall 2027 and will cost $186 million.
Gale Atkins, lives on Woodson Drive, just a few houses down from where it meets Alcoa Highway. He said someone came to inspect his home prior to construction starting the project.
“During that inspection, he informed me that the construction was going to be a five-year project and that the dynamiting was going to start in September, maybe October or something like that,” Atkins said.
Though they will not be closing the highway, and two lanes going in each direction will remain open, Atkins thinks some drivers may try to avoid the road.
“The people coming through here, I think it’s going to be very busy,” he said.
For Atkins, he is more concerned about his neighbors’ commutes than his own.
“As far as I’m concerned, I’m not really worried about it too much because I’m retired and I can pick and choose when I leave the house. So, it’s going to affect the commuters pretty dramatically though,” he said.
Atkins has lived on Woodson Drive since the 80s and said he remembers when the last phase of the Alcoa Highway project began.
“I think it’s going to be a good thing. I know the first part of the project has been a blessing because we don’t have to cross Alcoa Highway any longer at ground level we can now use bridges to go across it and to enter Alcoa Highway,” he said. “So, it’s been a blessing and I think that this is going to help as well.”
The main goals of this phase of the project are to widen the highway from two lanes on each side to three lanes and to modify interchanges and the entrance to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
