Common Types of Big Rig Truck Insurance in Belle Glade, FL
At Independence Insurance Agency, we offer several types of insurance coverage for local, intermediate, and long-haul trucking needs. Here are just a few categories of trucking insurance coverage that our agency offers.
As the foundation of your insurance policy, liability coverage is required by law in most states in the U.S. It provides coverage for damage or injuries caused to properties or other people if your 18-wheeler is responsible for the crash. Without liability coverage, it's almost impossible to drive a truck or run a trucking business without major legal consequences.
Having physical damage coverage is an essential component that shouldn't be overlooked. This insurance is responsible for covering the expenses related to repairing or replacing your truck in situations such as accidents, theft, vandalism, and other damaging events. By having this coverage, you can rest assured that your business won't be affected significantly by unexpected incidents, and you can continue running your operations smoothly even in challenging times.
For trucking companies, the goods they transport are crucial to their operations. To protect these goods from damage, loss, or theft while in transit, cargo insurance is essential. This coverage provides much-needed peace of mind for both you and your clients, allowing you to reimburse clients for any losses sustained while protecting your reputation and brand identity.
Non-Trucking Liability Insurance is designed to cover property damage or bodily injury that may occur during personal time when the driver/truck is not under dispatch. This coverage can be applied with or without a trailer and is added to a commercial policy as an endorsement.
While Independence Insurance Agency has built a reputation of excellence in serving the needs of truckers, we also offer general liability. Also known as Truckers General Liability, this coverage insures for bodily injuries or property damage that happen due to business activities that are NOT the cause of operating a truck. It covers accidents that occur in parking lots, rest stops, also while loading or unloading. General liability can also cover losses related to theft and vandalism. Most brokers and shippers will require this coverage to work with you.
Bobtail insurance is a type of coverage that is comparable to non-trucking liability, which is designed to offer protection when driving a truck without a trailer attached. This is commonly referred to as "bobtailing." With bobtail insurance, the tractor is covered at all times, even when it is not attached to a trailer, regardless of whether or not the truck is under dispatch.
Trailer interchange insurance is a must-have if you're involved in a trailer interchange agreement. This essential coverage offers protection for trailers owned by other parties that you're using under a contractual agreement. It covers damages caused by collisions, fire, theft, and vandalism, providing assurance to all parties involved.

BELLE GLADE, Fla. — Florida Crystals Corp.'s rice mill is converting sunlight to renewable energy from a 900-panel solar array and the first Tesla Megapack battery in Florida in a goal for its operations to become carbon neutral, the company announced Wednesday.
The sugarcane company already was powering 80% by renewable energy, which includes its agricultural and industrial operations as well as its corporate offices and fleet. Florida Crystals rotates sugarcane, rice and vegetables on 190,000 acres in western Palm Beach County.
Florida Crystals uses its biomass as fuel to generate the clean, green energy that powers its operations.
The Tesla Megapack battery is at its Sem Chi Rice Mill in Belle Glade. The company owns to rice mills.
“Our solar project is an amazing complement to how Florida Crystals is already powered,” Andy Sauber, senior director of sustainability, said. “The majority of the power for our operations already comes from the sun because our main fuel source is our own sugarcane fiber, which grows by converting and storing energy from sunlight. This new investment at our rice mill is literally making us even more solar-powered than we already are, but instead of storing the energy in our plants, we are utilizing a Tesla Megapack battery.”
The solar panels provide power to the rice mill and charge the battery during the day, and the battery then supplies power to the rice mill after dark.
“The solar panels, and particularly the Tesla battery, provide reliable electricity throughout the day and night, ensuring continuous operation of the mill and the protection of our staple food products no matter what Mother Nature has in store,” Sauber said.
This first phase of the solar project will power one of the rice mill’s two electrical meters and supply approximately 20% of the total energy needs estimated to reduce carbon by 250 tons annually.
The rice mill supplies 90 million pounds of locally grown rice each year – enough to feed more than 4 million people annually.
The end of the rice harvest season, when storage silos are at full capacity, coincides with the peak hurricane season, when there is a much higher likelihood of power shortages.
The Megapack eliminates the needs for industrial-sized diesel generators.

Pahokee, Fla.- February 7, 2023- – Healthier Glades, a Palm Health Foundation Healthier Together initiative, is beginning 2023 by investing in nonprofit organizations and residents to provide a range of programs to support behavioral health in Palm Beach County’s western communities, including Belle Glade, Canal Point, Pahokee, and South Bay. Mini-grants ranging from $2,000 to $3,000 were awarded to nine residents and four nonprofit organizations to implement their ideas for impacting behavioral health in the region. Each awardee received a congratulatory letter from Florida State Representative Rick Roth who is supportive of the program. Healthier Glades has awarded $99,000 in mini-grants since 2019.
Healthier Glades’ unique approach to behavioral health brings together residents, grassroots initiatives, and organizations to unlock community strengths, elevating and investing in the ideas that the community believes hold the most promise to change lives and the narrative around mental health.
“We believe behavioral health is how we cope with life stressors and what it means to be healthy and well physically, emotionally, and spiritually,” said Annie Ifill, Healthier Glades project director. “We work with the Glades communities by beginning with the area’s natural assets and resources, including family, faith, and friends.”
Healthier Glades mini-grant awardees will provide services in the following areas.
Promoting Health and Wellness
Storytelling and Changing the Narrative
Developing and Nurturing Participation Channels
President and CEO of Palm Health Foundation Patrick McNamara sees the value of investing in the people and organizations closest to community. “We humanize health when we recognize that residents often have solutions for their own communities, they just need a little support to get them off the ground,” he said. “The Healthier Glades awardees have a wide range of unique assets and expertise for promoting brain health and well-being from youth to seniors.”

Once a Stallion, American Heritage-Delray alum Mike Morris is now set to be a Seahawk.
The 22 year-old Belle Glade native was Seattle's first selection of the fifth round, drafted 151st overall to join a long list of more than 60 football stars from Muck City making strides in the NFL.
That toughness translated to the field, seeing Morris stun through an injury-riddled senior season for Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year honors.
Patience is the only other thing that outweighed the 6-foot-5, 275 pound edge's grit.
Stallions Continue Winning Tradition:Songs about rain help send top-ranked American Heritage-Delray girls to state semifinals
Florida Footballers Up Next:Florida quarterback commit Austin Simmons leaves Pahokee, enrolls at Moore Haven
Morris didn't leave high school with a state title, running into Hollywood's Chaminade-Madonna before punching the ticket to state, but his defense still has the bragging rights of holding the Lions to their closest region final game since establishing their role as a resident powerhouse in 2017.
That 9-4 season, the four-star recorded 89 tackles — 25 for loss — five sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and returned a touchdown on a blocked punt.
Along the way, the highly touted prospect and No. 22 defensive end in the country flipped his commitment from Florida State, where his father, Mike Morris Sr., played on the O-line. Morris also picked up a number of varsity accolades, including multiple Super 11 and first-team all-county selections from The Palm Beach Post.
At Michigan, he didn't see game action until he was a sophomore. Across four years, Morris made just 16 starts in 27 games. However, in his junior and senior years, the Wolverines saw Morris unleashed, eager to hit the field after playing behind the 2022 draft's second overall pick Aidan Hutchinson and second-round selection David Ojabo.
Two College Football Playoff appearances later, seeing even a glimpse of Morris' full potential was certainly worth the wait.
In 2021, he played in all 14 games. Highlighting the year with a quarterback hurry against Georgia in the Orange Bowl, Morris made 17 tackles, had two pass breakups, and one interception.
Morris exploded in 2022 with 23 tackles — 11 for loss — a team-high 7.5 sacks, four quarterback hurries, three PBUs, one forced fumble and a blocked kick to earn his third varsity letter. His last collegiate appearance in December's Fiesta Bowl against TCU was marked by a tipped-off pass and two solo tackles.
American Heritage-Delray Athletic Director Kristina Shahin tweeted: "It couldn't have happened to a better guy!! Let's go kid!!"
More Palm Beach County picks
Former Park Vista wide receiver A.T. Perry was picked by the New Orleans Saints in the sixth round with pick No. 195 overall. Wake Forest's long, lean, speedy receiving machine caught for 1,293 yards and 15 scores last season for the Demon Deacons.
Clinching back-to-back All-ACC first team designations, the Lake Worth native made his last season as Demon Deacon one of note, receiving for 1,096 yards (81 receptions, 13.5 per). 11 scores in 13 games tied him for seventh in the FBS.
After the seventh round
Atlantic-turned-Texas Tech defensive back Marquis “Muddy” Waters signed a free-agent contract with the New York Jets. He was benched by injury in 2021 and made a dominant comeback, totaling 60 tackles, 13 for loss.
A handful of Palm Beach prospects declared, but didn’t get the call.
Among players who entered this year’s draft were Dwyer quarterback Todd Centeio, who played collegiately at James Madison, along with Utah State's Gurvan Hall and Maryland linebacker VanDarius Cowan, who both played for Palm Beach Gardens.
One of the last greats to come out of a folded Oxbridge program, Kentucky cornerback Keidron Smith, along with former Atlantic defensive back Datrone Young, who went to Duke, also went unselected.
