The city of Gallatin is partnering with a prominent Tennessee developer to transform its downtown.
Boyle Investment Co. has been tapped by city officials to redevelop Gallatin’s downtown square and create a new city hall.
“Gallatin's downtown square is a premier destination for both residents and visitors, embodying the heartbeat of our community,” Gallatin Mayor Paige Brown said in a news release. “Recognizing a shared vision among residents and city leaders to build up instead of out, we aim to revitalize and reinvest in our city's core.”
Plans for the proposed development, which will take over two city-owned blocks, includes a “major brand” hotel, residential units, open green spaces and retail and restaurant space.
The project is expected to generate over $40 million in property tax revenue over 20 years and have a $261 million economic impact during its construction phase. It is also expected to create more than 300 permanent jobs in the city.
"Citizens and city leaders have asked for years that we focus on revitalizing our downtown — and that is exactly what we’re proposing,” Rosemary Bates, interim executive director of Gallatin Economic Development Agency, said in a release. “We owe it to our citizens and future generations to explore a project of this magnitude — a project that will leave a lasting legacy of progress and prosperity in Gallatin."
Memphis-based Boyle Investment Co. opened its Nashville office in 2001, and has experienced tremendous growth in the past 20 years, now owning and managing almost 4 million square feet of office and retail space, as well as a projected five million square feet in the development and planning stages.
Boyle is responsible for many major Middle Tennessee developments including Berry Farms, McEwen Northside, Meridian Cool Springs and Capitol View.
“This collaboration is deeply personal for me since I have close family ties to the city and much of my family has called Gallatin home for generations. I want this development to reflect the spirit of the city that my family continues to cherish,” Jeff Haynes, managing partner at Boyle, said in the release. “As Gallatin grows, we’re honored to partner with the city to provide public spaces where people can connect, build community and continue to be the best neighbors they can be.”
Boyle has proposed a conceptual site plan, but the city will conduct multiple site and parking studies before the project is approved. The study is anticipated to take up to a year to complete.
A proposed memorandum of understanding that allows Gallatin to conduct a feasibility study with Boyle will go before the Gallatin City Council for approval on March 12.

In Tennessee, the Gallatin Economic Development Agency (GEDA) and Twenty Three officials have announced that the global LED housing and framing producer will invest $3 million to establish its first U.S. manufacturing operation in the Gallatin Industrial Center. The company has provided solutions for notable touring artists including Ed Sheeran and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Headquartered in Belgium, Twenty Three is a leader in designing, engineering, and manufacturing framing components for large-scale LED displays primarily used by the entertainment, live event, and touring industries. This project represents a capital investment of $3 million and will create 10 full-time jobs with projected growth of up to 30 new jobs.
“We are proud to add Twenty Three to the impressive list of high-tech manufacturing brands that call Gallatin home,” GEDA Executive Director James Fenton said. “Landing a competitive project such as this speaks volumes about the advantages of our community and further reinforces that when it comes to recruiting the right companies, ‘Gallatin Gets it.’”
The 31,000-square-foot facility located in the Gallatin Industrial Center is expected to be operational by September 2023 and will serve as Twenty Three’s U.S. production hub for engineering, design, and fabrication. The company will retain its customer service office in Monrovia, CA, but plans to onshore current manufacturing operations to Gallatin to better serve its customers.
“We considered several cities for our new location and ultimately selected Gallatin because of the strong concentration of workforce talent and entertainment companies that exist within the Nashville region,” Twenty Three CEO Kristof Soreyn said. “We couldn’t be more excited to put down roots in Tennessee.”
Twenty Three chose Greater Nashville because of its central location, access to skilled engineering talent from nearby universities, and proximity to existing customers within the live event industry.
“This is another great announcement for our city and one that complements our expanding technology hub,” Gallatin Mayor Paige Brown said. “We are proud to welcome this established Belgian company to our community and look forward to building a long-term partnership that will help both Gallatin and Twenty Three continue to thrive.”
Twenty Three joins a list of notable tech and manufacturing brands who have invested in the Gallatin Industrial Center since 2016 including Meta, Beretta, Axem, Mohawk Textiles, and Archer Data Centers.
Distribution In Tennessee Grows With Kroger
In southeastern Tennessee, The Kroger Company announced this week it will establish distribution operations in Cleveland, TN. The in-store and online grocery retailer will construct a new Central Fill facility there as its fifth U.S. location. Kroger will create 140 new jobs in Bradley County as a result of the project.
The Central Fill facility will increase pharmacy efficiencies and accuracy by utilizing automated technology to fulfill prescriptions. Once complete, the 50,000-square-foot plant will support Kroger’s pharmacies in the southeastern U.S. Founded in 1883, and headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, The Kroger Company is an American retailer that operates supermarkets and multi-department stores across the U.S.
During the announcement, Kroger Economic Development Director, Lisa Daugherty, said, “We appreciate the site selection guidance and collaboration with the State, City of Cleveland, Bradley County and Tennessee Valley Authority on this exciting project. Tennessee offers an ideal combination of business assistance and a skilled labor market to support the growth of Kroger Health.”
Stuart C. McWhorter, Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner, said, “We are proud to collaborate with Kroger again to announce new jobs and investment in Tennessee. Cleveland and Bradley County are geographically positioned to enhance Kroger’s distribution network across the Southeast, and we look forward to seeing the success of its newest Central Fill facility.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — From the halls of Gallatin High School to the grand stage of Super Bowl 58, 24-year-old Jordan Mason is making his community proud as he prepares to compete in one of the largest sporting events of the year.
Mason is currently a running back for the San Francisco 49ers. Mason's journey from Gallatin to the NFL has made his community proud.
Mason's impact on and off the field has not gone unnoticed, with his former teacher, Sarah Kittrell. She's proud of his achievements.
"He's a good example of green wave pride, especially on the field and off," Kittrell said.
While juggling academic commitments and football, Mason was also talented at baseball. Danielle Smith, a teacher at Gallatin High School, remembers watching Mason hit home runs.
"It's amazing to watch him hit a home run with one hand and it goes 400 feet." Smith describes Mason as having a "million-dollar smile" and a love for children.
"We just couldn't be happier for you. You are exactly what we hope our kids do. They follow a dream, and even when it gets hard, they just keep going," Smith said.
Among Mason's avid supporters is his aunt, Alvita Halcomb.
"When we're in the stands, we're a force to be reckoned with," Halcomb said.
Mason's high school football coach, Randall Silcox, remembers Mason breaking several football records while excelling academically.
"You can’t go to Georgia Tech without taking care of the classroom," Silcox said.
As Mason gears up for Super Bowl Sunday, his former coach, Silcox, has high hopes for him.
"Special teams is a starting role and he’s on the field playing. We want to see him carry the ball but you know the coach knows what he sees and they know where they need to put those pieces."
Everyone in the Gallatin community is proud of Mason and they're rooting for him.
Mason's parents and three-year-old daughter, are heading to Vegas to cheer him on, local supporters are organizing Super Bowl parties to celebrate their hometown hero.

The owners of Edley’s Bar-B-Que will open in Gallatin in late summer.

Edley's will be located in a building adjacent to the space to house an M.L.Rose Craft Beer & Burgers (read more here), NBJ reports. Nashville's Anecdote Architectural Experiences has designed the building.
The future Edley's space, to be about 4,500 square feet, will offer 140 seats, a patio and a putting green.
Newman's efforts to debut in Sumner County come as he prepared to open at The Factory at Franklin in Williamson County in late April, NBJ reports.
The Newmans opened their first Edley's in 2011 in 12South and have since established a presence in East Nashville, Sylvan Park, Donelson, Nolensville, Chattanooga, Franklin and, in Illinois, Glen Carbon and O'Fallon.
Franklin's Americana Taphouse and its accompanying business Burger Dandy will close on Feb. 11, according to multiple local media reports.
Owned by A. Marshall Hospitality, perhaps best known for its Puckett's Restaurants, Americana Taphouse opened at 94 E Main St. in early 2020 (read here) at the site of the former Puckett's Boat House (which opened in 2018).
The building has seen some turnover. Prior to Puckett's Boat House, the property accommodated Riff’s Burgers, which opened in 2011. That entity rebranded as Route 31 Café in 2012 and was relatively short-lived. Riff's and Route 31 were not operated by A. Marshall Hospitality.
Burger Dandy was launched by the restaurant group as a virtual concept in 2021 for pickup and delivery during the pandemic. In 2022, it added a sit-down location within the Americana Taphouse building.
A. Marshall Hospitality co-founders Andy Marshall and Jan Marshall did not note in a statement if they plan a replacement restaurant concept for the building.

Montreal-based breakfast- and brunch-focused restaurant chain Eggspectation has tapped Antioch for its first location in Tennessee.
The company's website notes the restaurant will open at Tanger Outlets, with a main address of 4060 Can Ridge Parkway, in the spring. In addition, a Knoxville Eggspectiation (stylized as "eggspectation") is planned for a summer opening.
Eggspectation was founded in 1993 in Montreal and now offers a presence in, in addition to Canada and the United States, Egypt, Pakistan, Qatar and United Arab Emirates. In the U.S., the concept can be found in Deleware, Maryland, Virginia and Texas, with Charlotte slated for an outpost.
In addition to a breakfast and brunch menu, the restaurant serves pastas, burgers, seafood, salads, flatbreads, taco and steaks.
