Common Types of Big Rig Truck Insurance in Myrtle Beach, SC
At Independence Insurance Agency, we offer several types of insurance coverage for local, intermediate, and long-haul trucking needs. Here are just a few categories of trucking insurance coverage that our agency offers.
As the foundation of your insurance policy, liability coverage is required by law in most states in the U.S. It provides coverage for damage or injuries caused to properties or other people if your 18-wheeler is responsible for the crash. Without liability coverage, it's almost impossible to drive a truck or run a trucking business without major legal consequences.
Having physical damage coverage is an essential component that shouldn't be overlooked. This insurance is responsible for covering the expenses related to repairing or replacing your truck in situations such as accidents, theft, vandalism, and other damaging events. By having this coverage, you can rest assured that your business won't be affected significantly by unexpected incidents, and you can continue running your operations smoothly even in challenging times.
For trucking companies, the goods they transport are crucial to their operations. To protect these goods from damage, loss, or theft while in transit, cargo insurance is essential. This coverage provides much-needed peace of mind for both you and your clients, allowing you to reimburse clients for any losses sustained while protecting your reputation and brand identity.
Non-Trucking Liability Insurance is designed to cover property damage or bodily injury that may occur during personal time when the driver/truck is not under dispatch. This coverage can be applied with or without a trailer and is added to a commercial policy as an endorsement.
While Independence Insurance Agency has built a reputation of excellence in serving the needs of truckers, we also offer general liability. Also known as Truckers General Liability, this coverage insures for bodily injuries or property damage that happen due to business activities that are NOT the cause of operating a truck. It covers accidents that occur in parking lots, rest stops, also while loading or unloading. General liability can also cover losses related to theft and vandalism. Most brokers and shippers will require this coverage to work with you.
Bobtail insurance is a type of coverage that is comparable to non-trucking liability, which is designed to offer protection when driving a truck without a trailer attached. This is commonly referred to as "bobtailing." With bobtail insurance, the tractor is covered at all times, even when it is not attached to a trailer, regardless of whether or not the truck is under dispatch.
Trailer interchange insurance is a must-have if you're involved in a trailer interchange agreement. This essential coverage offers protection for trailers owned by other parties that you're using under a contractual agreement. It covers damages caused by collisions, fire, theft, and vandalism, providing assurance to all parties involved.

3 Safe Driving Tips to
Lower the Cost of Truck Insurance in Myrtle Beach, SC
Keeping your drivers safe on the road is crucial not only for their own well-being but also for the safety of other motorists and the financial stability of your business. The Department of Labor has identified the trucking industry as one of the most hazardous sectors in the U.S. In fact, trucking and logistics fleets are known for their high injury and fatality rates. By improving how safely your truckers drive, you can help reduce expenses related to claim payouts, accidents, and insurance premium hikes.
Whether you own a large fleet or you're the owner and operator of a single rig, keep these safe driving tips in mind to help lower your insurance costs.
Implement Preventative Maintenance Plans
Ensuring the safety of your drivers begins with the safety of their vehicles. Trucks and tractor-trailers that do not receive regular maintenance, such as oil and brake pad changes, are more likely to experience breakdowns while on the road. Telematics devices provide real-time insight into engine and odometer data, including fault codes.
This information enables your mechanics to create comprehensive preventative maintenance schedules based on mileage, history of previous breakdowns, days, and more. Additionally, they can receive immediate notifications for critical fault codes. By implementing routine maintenance and proactive repair schedules, you can ensure that your vehicles are in top condition, minimizing the likelihood of breakdowns, which can help reduce the cost of trucker insurance.
Call NowPractice Defensive Driving
This approach aims to mitigate the risk of fatal crashes and injuries by proactively identifying and responding to potentially dangerous situations and making informed decisions while driving. By adopting defensive driving techniques, drivers can reduce their likelihood of accidents, thereby minimizing the need for expensive repairs, claim payouts, and increased insurance premiums.
Some of the easiest ways for you or your drivers to practice safe driving include:
- Be Wary of Blind Spots: Operating a reefer or tractor-trailer means driving high off of the ground, which can make visibility limited, especially in blind spots. To check your blind spot, look over your shoulder and out of your windows while changing lanes.
- Be Ready for Emergencies on the Road: It's important for drivers to be ready for unexpected situations when driving, especially during long trips. They should be equipped to handle emergencies such as poor driving conditions or big rig breakdowns.
- Use the Three-Second Rule: Truck drivers should try to maintain a three-second gap between their vehicle and the car in front of them. This means that the truck driver should reach a certain point on the road three seconds after the car in front of them has passed that same point.
- Always Use Right and Left Turn Indicators: It's important for drivers to always use their turn signals when changing lanes or exiting highways, even if they don't see any other cars around. This is not only required by law, but it also reduces the chances of accidents occurring on the road.
Find Ways to Prevent Distracted Driving
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), distracted driving is the primary reason behind truck driver accidents. Any activity that takes a driver's attention away from the road or the steering wheel is considered distracted driving. Distractions can come in various forms, such as eating while driving or gazing at a billboard outside the window. However, the most frequent form of distracted driving is the use of cellphones, specifically texting while driving.
Assuming you or your driver's rigs are equipped with dual-facing cameras, try reviewing footage of an unsafe driving incident. Coach your drivers on ways to correct their unsafe behaviors or look up ways to do so yourself if you're the one operating the big rig. The bottom line is that when your drivers aren't distracted, they drive safer. And when they drive safer, the cost of 18-wheeler insurance in cityname, state can be reduced.

A large shopping center in the Conway area will be re-developed, and construction is expected to start soon.
Rise Partners bought the Coastal Centre property at 1610 Church St. in Conway and intends to re-develop it. The firm announced the purchase in a LinkedIn post.
Rise Partners is a commercial real estate firm focusing on commercial real estate and the development and re-development of properties. The company focuses on high-growth areas like the Grand Strand in the southeast United States.
Indeed, the firm has also invested in other South Carolina shopping centers and mixed-use projects in Rock Hill and Easley. According to Horry County Land Records, RP Coastal Centre LLC bought the parcels that make up the property for $14 million.
In an interview with The Sun News on Oct. 30, 2024, Rise Partners Partner Greg Wilson said that the firm was looking to bring in new national tenants to the shopping center, although he could not say who. Wilson added that the firm hopes to start construction on the project in 2025 and complete it sometime in 2026.
“We’re super excited about it,” Wilson said. “Conway is growing and needs better options in the market.”
Wilson added that the center would remain retail-focused, and no residential component would be part of the project. The Coastal Centre falls within Conway city limits.
City of Conway Public Information Officer June Wood wrote in an email to The Sun News that the city hadn’t received any plans from the developers for the Coastal Centre.
It’s not the only shopping center along the Grand Strand undergoing re-development. Construction and demolition on the Inlet Square Mall in Murrells Inlet started in October 2024, with rubble piling up.
The site plan includes converting the enclosed shopping mall with several distinct retail components, potentially including a residential component. Hobby Lobby and Home2 Suites have already been announced as tenants for the property.

Washington, D.C. – Today, CoSN announced that the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and South Carolina Department of Education have collaborated with CoSN on a program aimed at enhancing student data privacy practices in their school districts. Through their participation in the CoSN Trusted Learning Environment (TLE) State Partnership Program, the Carolinas are actively supporting K-12 educational institutions in their states by providing them with essential tools, training, and guidance to establish and enhance student data privacy programs.
North and South Carolina’s Partnership Programs offer complimentary TLE Seal applications to all districts in their respective states. Furthermore, the TLE Partnership Program provides exclusive data privacy benchmarking reports that compare the aggregate measures of district privacy programs in each state with those of TLE Seal recipients across 25 specific privacy practices. These reports are accompanied by CoSN’s student data privacy resources, specifically designed to support areas of improvement for districts in each state, ensuring the privacy of over 2 million students. The organization’s TLE Seal is a national recognition granted to school districts that demonstrate a concrete commitment to safeguarding student data through up-to-date policies and practices.
“The top priority for North Carolina schools is safeguarding our students. From a Digital Teaching and Learning perspective, this includes ensuring the safety of our student’s data,” said Dr. Ashley McBride, Digital Learning Initiative Section Chief at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. “Through the North Carolina Digital Learning Initiative funds and our collaboration with CoSN’s Trusted Learning Environment State Program, the Department of Public Instruction has been able to offer valuable resources and training to ensure student data protection is prioritized when using any technology. With the increasing threat of bad actors attempting to access and misuse student information, it’s crucial that our schools have every possible advantage and tool at their disposal to protect sensitive data.”
“In South Carolina, we prioritize building and maintaining high standards of privacy and security across all of our school districts. By partnering with CoSN through the Trusted Learning Environment State Partnership Program, we are ensuring that every district in South Carolina has the opportunity to access the tools and guidance necessary to help build robust student data privacy programs,” said Valarie Byrd, Senior Consultant-School District Technology Services with the Division of Data, Technology & Agency Operations at the South Carolina Department of Education. “This subscription reinforces our commitment to keep our students safe as they access digital platforms.”
ABOUT CoSN LEARNING PROGRAMS
TLE Partnership Programs provide state education agencies with:
Student data privacy training and access to organization’s Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL®) preparation and exam are among the additional supports available.
“Protecting student data privacy has never been more important or more complex. From securing internal systems to assessing vendor technologies and providing adequate training for employees, the work takes expertise, persistence, and an organizational culture that prioritizes privacy,” said Keith Krueger, CEO of CoSN. “The Carolinas are leading the charge to support their school districts in maintaining and improving privacy practices. Through participation in CoSN’s TLE State Partnership Program, they are ensuring that their school districts are equipped with the tools, training, and resources to more effectively safeguard student information.”
The organization’s TLE Seal Program mandates that educational institutions adhere to stringent criteria in safeguarding the privacy of student data. These criteria encompass five fundamental practice areas: Leadership, Business operations, Data security, Professional development, and Classroom practices.
To obtain the organization’s TLE Seal, K-12 school districts must have implemented, maintained, and enhanced student data privacy practices. This seal is unique as it is the only privacy framework tailored specifically for school districts. Districts that receive the TLE Seal must showcase their commitment to ongoing improvement by reapplying every two years.
The organization is a leading professional association for K-12 EdTech leaders. They are dedicated to driving education innovation and equipping current and aspiring education technology leaders, their teams, and school districts with the necessary community, knowledge, and professional development to create engaging learning environments. About the CoSN Trusted Learning Environment State Partnership Program
The CoSN Trusted Learning Environment (TLE) State Partnership Program aims to assess and enhance student data privacy practices in all districts within a state. By conducting surveys to benchmark privacy performance across 25 requirements of the CoSN Trusted Learning Environment Seal Program, CoSN can compare and aggregate district results with those of TLE Seal recipients. CoSN then offers tailored resources to each state, focusing on improving the three weakest areas. This cycle is repeated to continually strengthen privacy practices across all districts. Additionally, states receive free TLE applications for their districts, allowing them to receive customized feedback and recognition for their privacy efforts. The larger-than-life Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is traveling the Myrtle Beach area this weekend, but it won’t stay long.
“Hotdoggers” Cooper “Coop Dog” Albert and Kaitlyn “Corndog Kate” Goldstein, are driving the Wienermobile to several scheduled appearances where fans can get up close to the massive hot dog, collect one of the signature weenie whistles and pose for an iconic picture.
After its “Halloweenie” appearance at the Cooper House’s trunk-or-treat event Thursday, the Wienermobile still has three remaining stops around the Grand Strand before it rolls out of town.
On Friday, Nov. 1, the Wienermobile will be at EdVenture Myrtle Beach in the Market Common from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The children’s museum is located at 4005 Howard Ave.
After its stop at the children’s museum, the Wienermobile will park at JB’s Annual Fall Bash from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 10635 Ocean Highway. The Nov. 2 event will also feature live music and a silent auction.
The last Wienermobile appearance in the Myrtle Beach area will be at Publix at Forest Square. Fans can stop by at 2170 Oakheart Road on Nov. 3 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Each wienermobile appearance is different, depending on the host and the event.
“Sometimes there’s games and stuff provided. Sometimes we’re just adding to the atmosphere, taking pictures, we’re spreading smiles, giving out coupons, playing games and, of course, giving out iconic wiener whistles,” Albert said.
While visitors can always count on the Wienermobile for wiener whistles, hot dogs aren’t a guarantee.
“We don’t always give out hot dogs,” Albert said. “That’s usually the vendor’s responsibility to bring them, but we always encourage the vendors to bring them because it always adds to the adventure.”
No matter what the event, hot dog fans can expect a great photo opportunity with the Wienermobile.
To photograph the iconic vehicle in its entirety, Albert and Goldstein recommend posing off-center of the Wienermobile and capturing the picture at an angle. If your phone or camera allows you to zoom out with a 0.5 or 0.6 lens, that can also help you get the entire Wienermobile in frame.
For those who want to get extra-goofy in their pictures, the Wienermobile also brings cutouts to pose as a hot dog or, for October, a spooky “mummy dog.”
