The city didn’t make a public works or utilities worker available to be interviewed about the storm.
“I wasn’t expecting it because it wasn’t like a tropical storm,” Julie Oakes said.

Oakes and her neighbors are now following detours to get around more washouts over canals on Walden and Weldon streets.
“Very surprising, I went to go to Publix yesterday morning and was pretty shocked at how much water was on the roads,” she said.
The city released a statement Tuesday on the road repairs:
Joe Farinato said public works responded right away to close the roads.
“Their bulletins were pretty quick letting people know,” he said. “If you didn’t respond, you just kept letting you know that there were floods and to stay home.”
While the sewer system recovers, the city is asking people to limit how much water they use.
The city said water is safe to drink.

One of Palm Bay’s biggest draws is its incredibly robust fishing scene. World-class bass fishing happens at Stick Marsh, also known as Farm 13, a 6,500-acre impoundment where you can catch bass, bluegill, black catfish, black crappie, and readear sunfish. Take a guided fishing trip with an experienced captain, who will help you bring in the big stuff.
This 130-acre nature preserve has been a favorite for residents and visitors alike since the early 1980s. Admission is free and guests are welcome to traverse trails through hammock and sand pine scrub habitats. In addition to a 1.85-mile boardwalk, 1.5 mile jogging trail, and 1 mile bike trail, you can also kayak or canoe on Turkey Creek or visit the Margaret Hames Nature Center to learn more about the preserve’s flora and fauna.

A Brevard city is being recognized by Southern Living Magazine as one of the South’s top rising cities in 2024.
Palm Bay ranked No. 13 on the list of 25, which was compiled based on research, editors’ experiences and reader input.
“These reader-selected cities have excellent food scenes, cool yet quaint downtown districts, incredible natural beauty, thriving arts communities, and the warmth our region is known for,” according to Southern Living Magazine.
It also noted the South is the most populous region in the country and accounted for 87% of the country’s growth in 2023.
What did Southern Living Magazine say about Palm Bay?
“Saltwater fishing and unspoiled nature have long been the draw of this sleepy Space Coast town. But big things are on the way with a major development project called Ashton Park that is projected to add thousands of homes and about 5 million square feet of retail and commercial space to the area.”
The publication boosted about Palm Bay’s proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and Indian River Lagoon as well as its accessibility to Orlando. It also mentioned the opportunities to fish, kayak and enjoy nature at Turkey Creek Sanctuary and Micco Scrub Sanctuary.

That went to North Port, which ranked No. 21. North Port is a city of almost 90,000 in Southwest Florida’s Sarasota County.
