The Importance of
Commercial Truck Insurance in Pompano Beach, FL
- Let's face it - truckers in America have always been the backbone of our great country. They still are in modern times. On any given day, thousands of trucks traverse our highways and local roads, delivering goods and products on time so that businesses and consumers have what they need to live life. And while commercial trucking can be an incredibly lucrative way to make a living and put food on the table, it can also be risky and expensive.
- Whether you're the owner of a fleet, an independent trucker, or have a business that uses big rigs to transport goods, you need commercial trucking insurance to protect you and your client's investments, shield you from liability, and more.
- That's where working with a reliable truck insurance agency comes into play. Unfortunately, for many commercial truck insurance providers, serving the needs of truckers is low on the proverbial totem pole. At Independence Insurance Agency, nothing could be further from the truth.

Common Types of Big Rig Truck Insurance in Pompano Beach, FL
At Independence Insurance Agency, we offer several types of insurance coverage for local, intermediate, and long-haul trucking needs. Here are just a few categories of trucking insurance coverage that our agency offers.
As the foundation of your insurance policy, liability coverage is required by law in most states in the U.S. It provides coverage for damage or injuries caused to properties or other people if your 18-wheeler is responsible for the crash. Without liability coverage, it's almost impossible to drive a truck or run a trucking business without major legal consequences.
Having physical damage coverage is an essential component that shouldn't be overlooked. This insurance is responsible for covering the expenses related to repairing or replacing your truck in situations such as accidents, theft, vandalism, and other damaging events. By having this coverage, you can rest assured that your business won't be affected significantly by unexpected incidents, and you can continue running your operations smoothly even in challenging times.
For trucking companies, the goods they transport are crucial to their operations. To protect these goods from damage, loss, or theft while in transit, cargo insurance is essential. This coverage provides much-needed peace of mind for both you and your clients, allowing you to reimburse clients for any losses sustained while protecting your reputation and brand identity.
Non-Trucking Liability Insurance is designed to cover property damage or bodily injury that may occur during personal time when the driver/truck is not under dispatch. This coverage can be applied with or without a trailer and is added to a commercial policy as an endorsement.
While Independence Insurance Agency has built a reputation of excellence in serving the needs of truckers, we also offer general liability. Also known as Truckers General Liability, this coverage insures for bodily injuries or property damage that happen due to business activities that are NOT the cause of operating a truck. It covers accidents that occur in parking lots, rest stops, also while loading or unloading. General liability can also cover losses related to theft and vandalism. Most brokers and shippers will require this coverage to work with you.
Bobtail insurance is a type of coverage that is comparable to non-trucking liability, which is designed to offer protection when driving a truck without a trailer attached. This is commonly referred to as "bobtailing." With bobtail insurance, the tractor is covered at all times, even when it is not attached to a trailer, regardless of whether or not the truck is under dispatch.
Trailer interchange insurance is a must-have if you're involved in a trailer interchange agreement. This essential coverage offers protection for trailers owned by other parties that you're using under a contractual agreement. It covers damages caused by collisions, fire, theft, and vandalism, providing assurance to all parties involved.

3 Safe Driving Tips to
Lower the Cost of Truck Insurance in Pompano Beach, FL
Keeping your drivers safe on the road is crucial not only for their own well-being but also for the safety of other motorists and the financial stability of your business. The Department of Labor has identified the trucking industry as one of the most hazardous sectors in the U.S. In fact, trucking and logistics fleets are known for their high injury and fatality rates. By improving how safely your truckers drive, you can help reduce expenses related to claim payouts, accidents, and insurance premium hikes.
Whether you own a large fleet or you're the owner and operator of a single rig, keep these safe driving tips in mind to help lower your insurance costs.
Implement Preventative Maintenance Plans
Ensuring the safety of your drivers begins with the safety of their vehicles. Trucks and tractor-trailers that do not receive regular maintenance, such as oil and brake pad changes, are more likely to experience breakdowns while on the road. Telematics devices provide real-time insight into engine and odometer data, including fault codes.
This information enables your mechanics to create comprehensive preventative maintenance schedules based on mileage, history of previous breakdowns, days, and more. Additionally, they can receive immediate notifications for critical fault codes. By implementing routine maintenance and proactive repair schedules, you can ensure that your vehicles are in top condition, minimizing the likelihood of breakdowns, which can help reduce the cost of trucker insurance.
Call NowPractice Defensive Driving
This approach aims to mitigate the risk of fatal crashes and injuries by proactively identifying and responding to potentially dangerous situations and making informed decisions while driving. By adopting defensive driving techniques, drivers can reduce their likelihood of accidents, thereby minimizing the need for expensive repairs, claim payouts, and increased insurance premiums.
Some of the easiest ways for you or your drivers to practice safe driving include:
- Be Wary of Blind Spots: Operating a reefer or tractor-trailer means driving high off of the ground, which can make visibility limited, especially in blind spots. To check your blind spot, look over your shoulder and out of your windows while changing lanes.
- Be Ready for Emergencies on the Road: It's important for drivers to be ready for unexpected situations when driving, especially during long trips. They should be equipped to handle emergencies such as poor driving conditions or big rig breakdowns.
- Use the Three-Second Rule: Truck drivers should try to maintain a three-second gap between their vehicle and the car in front of them. This means that the truck driver should reach a certain point on the road three seconds after the car in front of them has passed that same point.
- Always Use Right and Left Turn Indicators: It's important for drivers to always use their turn signals when changing lanes or exiting highways, even if they don't see any other cars around. This is not only required by law, but it also reduces the chances of accidents occurring on the road.
Find Ways to Prevent Distracted Driving
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), distracted driving is the primary reason behind truck driver accidents. Any activity that takes a driver's attention away from the road or the steering wheel is considered distracted driving. Distractions can come in various forms, such as eating while driving or gazing at a billboard outside the window. However, the most frequent form of distracted driving is the use of cellphones, specifically texting while driving.
Assuming you or your driver's rigs are equipped with dual-facing cameras, try reviewing footage of an unsafe driving incident. Coach your drivers on ways to correct their unsafe behaviors or look up ways to do so yourself if you're the one operating the big rig. The bottom line is that when your drivers aren't distracted, they drive safer. And when they drive safer, the cost of 18-wheeler insurance in cityname, state can be reduced.

With land in Miami and Fort Lauderdale at a premium, developers intent on creating new properties with views of the blue are more and more inclined to look northward for opportunities in the Broward County oceanside cities of Hillsboro Beach and Pompano Beach. Just a half dozen miles apart, the two beach destinations are situated less than 15 miles from Fort Lauderdale and just two miles from Boca Raton.
Broward Country has tripled its ultra-luxury sales since the start of the decade, with a sales volume of $175.3 million and a dozen sales in the $12 million-and-up strata.
Single-family homes in Hillsboro Beach have fetched prices in the eight-figure range, particularly for mansion-class properties. While Hillsboro Beach has long been an under-the-radar combination of small town and luxury resort area, its appeal has not escaped notice by the very well-heeled, earning it the moniker “Millionaire’s Mile.”
Beach reborn
A tide of transformative developments has similarly energized Pompano Beach, a city that recently poured $80 million into revitalizing its beach area through the addition of a new fish-shaped pier and a modern parking garage.
Developer Related Group’s 105-unit luxury condominium tower Solemar helped put the city on the map in summer 2020. The developer then launched Casamar, reaping $293 million in sales to this date. Situated in the center of Pompano Beach, Casamar Residences delivers 118 living units, and offers architecture by Arquitectonica and interiors by The Rockwell Group.
The success of Solemar and Casamar led Related and partner Merrimac Ventures to unveil Waldorf Astoria Residences Pompano Beach last November. That represented the celebrated brand’s introductory thrust into a residential-only approach, as well as its official entry into Broward County. The Waldorf Astoria Residences Pompano Beach sweeps across a two-acre site and incorporates 92 residences. The exclusive address was designed by Nichols Architects, in collaboration with KORA, BAMO and Enea Landscape Architecture. Among its trademarks is a wellness-driven amenity package offering sunrise and sunset pools, fitness center with his-and-hers saunas, golf simulator, regulation-size pickleball court and a range of aquatic activities.
MORE FOR YOU
“Pompano Beach’s transformation has been extraordinary,” says Dev Motwani, CEO of Merrimac Ventures, adding it’s been “the result of many years of careful, thoughtful development and public investment in the community, which we’ve witnessed in the last decade since we’ve owned the site.”
In Hillsboro Beach, Rosewood Residences Hillsboro Beach provides 92 exclusive waterfront condominium homes and villas, divided between a 70-residence tower and a 22-villa-style home low-rise structure. Also offered are six oceanfront and seven intracoastal penthouses sized between 2,800 and 6,400 square feet.
Developed by Related Group, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts and Dezer Development, the property features an amenity suite with exclusive touches that range from multiple fitness centers to private boat slips.
Arriving soon
A number of other notable properties are also in the pipeline in Hillsboro Beach and Pompano Beach. In a deal facilitated by Centennial Bank, Related Group and BH Group recently purchased for $28.5 million a Pompano Beach site destined to house a planned W Residences. That development will stand near The Ritz Carlton Residences, Waldorf Astoria Residences and other major developments currently underway.
“We are witnessing a remarkable influx of opportunities in a city that was once considered somewhat sleepy but is very awake today,” says J.C. de Ona, president of Centennial Bank Southeast Florida Division. “People recognize the potential and favorable pricing compared to its neighbors, Palm Beach and Miami. The pipeline of luxury high-rises is poised to spur economic activity, making a transformative phase in Pompano Beach’s narrative.”
Another property, the 10-story, 40-unit Salato Residences, by U.S. Development, is destined to rise 100 feet from the waterfront at 305 Briny Avenue in Pompano Beach. The development will include a half dozen penthouses designed by Randall Stofft Architects, featuring interiors by Steven G.

POMPANO BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - A South Florida family received the keys to their new home, sweet home, thanks to Habitat for Humanity of Broward.
At 18, Misgorgeous Saffo is learning important lessons about hard work, sacrifice and home ownership because of her family’s experience with the nonprofit.
“This journey has been really, really, really, really long,” she said during Saturday’s dedication ceremony.
After years of hardship, the Saffos received the keys to a dream.
“Not only to become homeowners, but just trusting us enough to be a part of the community,” said Saffo.
After qualifying for the home, Habitat families are granted an interest-free mortgage and work on the home with volunteers, putting in some sweat equity along the way.
The Saffo family not only got a key to their new home in a Rick Case Habitat Community in Pompano Beach; one of their new neighbors presented a special welcome basket
“A pound of flour. May you never know hunger. A pound of salt. You will always have flavor in your lives,” said the neighbor. “A pound of sugar. May you always have sweetness. A pound of a candle. May you always have light.”
Thoughtful neighbors are wonderful, but for so many South Florida families, the biggest struggle is finding any affordable housing.
Pompano Beach Mayor Rex Hardin said that with Habitat for Humanity’s help, the dream of home ownership isn’t out of reach.
“The teachers, the firefighters, the mail carriers. I mean, you name it. We’ve got people who can’t afford to live here,” he said.
The Saffos’ home is one of 76 in the neighborhood — part of a Habitat ProBuild.
The international company Balfour Beatty found 10 subcontractors to pay for supplies for the home, but the company’s project manager, Napoleon Perez, had a more personal reason for getting involved.
“Growing up, seeing my family struggling, being able to do this for someone else is the only right thing to do, you know?” he said. “We saw the opportunity, we brought everyone together. Everyone felt the same way.”
WSVN is a longtime supporter and sponsor of Habitat for Humanity.

POMPANO BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - A surprising visitor has made itself at home in a Pompano Beach neighborhood, and residents are concerned about its proximity to their homes.
A crocodile has been spotted lurking in a canal near Northeast 19th Street and Northeast 28th Terrace, venturing out during high tide, possibly in search of food.
Cellphone video recorded on Sunday captured the reptile with its mouth wide open as it sunned itself on a dock.
7News cameras later captured the crocodile for the second day in a row as it swam in the same area.
Gina, who spoke with 7News on Saturday, said she couldn’t believe her eyes when she first noticed the creature in the water near Northeast 19th Street and 28th Terrace earlier in the week.
“The whole crocodile came out from underneath the dock during high tide, and the mullet went running, so he was maybe looking for some fish,” said Gina.
Concerned for her neighbors’ safety, Gina called 7News to alert the community. She said the crocodile has stuck around.
“He’s come up a few times there — was sunning himself, floating in the water,” she said.
“It’s just crazy,” said another resident.
This recent crocodile sighting follows another incident just last week when a crocodile was seen in the Atlantic near the Pompano Pier, leading to the temporary closure of the beach.
While it’s uncertain whether this is the same crocodile, residents like Gina are ready to see it move on.
“It’s scary with the high tide. We’ve got the king tide here, so he can climb up over the dock and get into anybody’s backyard,” said Gina.
High tides have raised fears that the crocodile could potentially climb over docks and enter residents’ backyards, prompting concerns for both human safety and the well-being of local animals.
“We just want everyone to be safe and all our animals to be safe,” said another concerned resident.
Residents are eager for a resolution to ensure everyone’s safety, and they hope the unexpected guest finds a new home soon.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) spoke with Gina, saying that they are monitoring the reptile.
As of Monday, the FWC said there are no plans to remove the crocodile at this time, but they will be conducting a site visit.
Anyone who comes in contact with the crocodile is urged to call FWC immediately at 888-404-FWCC.
