Florida State coach Mike Norvell announced that several players will miss the remainder of spring practice, with varying timelines for their expected returns.
Florida State coach Mike Norvell announced that several players will miss the remainder of spring practice, with varying timelines for their expected returns. DT Joshua Farmer and OT Robert Scott will miss the spring recovering from injuries, but will be back for preseason camp.
Promising freshman CB Jamari Howard will miss the spring and the injury will linger into the regular season.
Farmer, a redshirt junior, recorded 32 tackles, including 7.0 for loss with 5.0 sacks, two quarterback hurries, two pass breakups and one forced fumble last season as a starter. He was named second-team All-ACC.
FSU anticipates Farmer being available for the start of the regular season, Norvell said.
He's expected to again start, likely alongside fellow Gadsden County product Darrell Jackson.
Farmer underwent surgery after the 2023 ACC Championship Game to repair a thumb injury that bothered him throughout about half of the season.
OL Robert Scott
Scott played in seven games with one start last season, with a leg injury hampering his 2023 campaign. Scott has suffered multiple leg injuries over the past couple of years, requiring multiple procedures.
When healthy, Scott is one of FSU's better linemen and brings 30 career starts to the table.
He underwent a procedure earlier this offseason. He's expected to be ready for the regular season.
Scott is a redshirt senior.
Howard, a true freshman, was praised for his athleticism during Tour of Duty, with multiple sources indicating that he has the length and athleticism to vie for a spot on special teams as a true freshman.
Norvell praised Howard's start to spring practice before the injury sidelined him.
The former four-star recruit enrolled at FSU for the spring semester.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- No. 17 Florida State baseball (20-3) claimed the season series victory over No. 6 Florida (14-9) with a 14-3 run-rule victory on Tuesday night at 121 Financial Ballpark. This is FSU's first win against the Gators in Jacksonville since 2015.
The Seminoles were led by a multi-homer performance from Drew Faurot, who drove in five runs. Daniel Cantu also drove in five runs, tying a career-high. The bullpen held UF to one hit over seven shutout innings of relief.
Both teams plated three runs in the first inning. Three straight singles from Cam Smith, James Tibbs, and Jaime Ferrer loaded the bases with one out against freshman right-hander Alex Philpott. Cantu, a Jacksonville native, ripped a liner into the RF corner for a bases-clearing double.

Andrew Armstrong made his third start of the season (second against the Gators). Following a walk and a single, Jac Caglianone skied his 12th homer of the season down the left-field line to tie the game at three. Armstrong retired three straight after the homer.
Joe Charles toed the rubber for the second and worked back-to-back scoreless frames. He allowed only one hit and struck out three batters, throwing 35 pitches in two innings. He earned his first career victory.
FSU scored in the last five innings. In the fourth, Faurot drove a fly ball to the opposite field that barely cleared the left field wall for his second homer of the season. Later in the frame, Max Williams plated Jaxson West with a two-out single.

In the next inning, Cantu doubled down the left-field line to score Tibbs from first. Cam Smith drove in a run in the sixth on a two-out double. Tibbs followed with a two-out RBI of his own, plating Smith on an RBI single.
Cantu's big day continued as he led off the seventh with a no-doubt bomb over the RF wall. The homer was his second as a Seminole.

Freshman John Abraham worked 3.1 scoreless innings after replacing Charles. Abraham struck out a career-high five batters and didn't allow any hits. Brennen Oxford stranded two runners on base in the seventh with back-to-back strikeouts. Oxford worked a 1-2-3 eighth to complete the run-rule victory.

The wide receivers, in particular, bounced back significantly at practice on Tuesday and took it to their teammates in the secondary. Deuce Spann set the tone with a one-handed grab in the back corner of the end zone during the first 11-on-11 red zone work period of the day. Mike Norvell continued to stay on Ron Dugans’ group, working with them throughout positional drills to emphasize the standard. The improved play contributed to the most consistent offensive performance throughout practice to begin camp this spring. During the first two-point conversion period, the offense scored six out of seven times against a defense that could not match its intensity. Later in the day, the starting secondary pushed back during 7-on-7, but DJ and the group still responded and found completions. I asked Mike Norvell about the pass-catchers today, and he seemed pleased by their performance.
“I thought it was a better day...You just challenge the guys. It’s the focus, it’s the details and making sure we’re finishing plays when we get the opportunity. You can see it; we have a talented group here...you need to seize the moment when you get it.”
Coach Norvell also shared unfortunate news at his press conference. Robert Scott and Josh Farmer will not be available for spring but should be ready for the fall. Jamari Howard will also be out for the rest of spring and into the fall.

Florida State got one of its top offensive line targets in Seminole (Fla.) four-star Max Buchanan on campus this past weekend for their Legacy event and he came away from the trip making a monumental change to his upcoming visit schedule.
Buchanan -- who previously did not have a summer official visit locked in with FSU -- tells Noles247.com that he has cancelled his initially planned official visit to Florida for June 7-9 and replaced it with a trip to FSU for those same dates.
Not only will the Seminoles now get an official visit from the talented in-state lineman, they're hurting one of their in-state rivals in the process.
The 6-foot-4, 275-pounder enjoyed getting to be around FSU's practice on Saturday along with the opportunity to connect with the former players on campus in Tallahassee.
"It was amazing. Being able to be at the practice today. The intensity and speed of the practice, also the energy of it, is amazing," Buchanan said. "That's how I would envision a high quality team having their practices. Being around all of the ex-players there that are very known, they're all great guys. Went and talked to a few of them. They were very welcoming. They had great things to say about the program."
The message from FSU's former players on campus was centered on their thoughts on head coach Mike Norvell.
"The whole message was that he's the best coach," he said of the message from FSU's former players on campus for Legacy Weekend. "And he's proven that. It's not more of what he could do, it's what he is doing. How he's going to make you a great football player but also a great person in general and grow you from being a boy to a man."
FSU began recruiting Buchana in the summer of 2022. He's seen the Seminole football program go from two-straight losing seasons to a 10-3 and 13-1 season over the past two years. That growth has helped the 'Noles out tremendously in his recruitment.
"It definitely increases it a lot," Buchanan said. "I see what they're doing -- they're doing the right thing. They're going to keep doing it for years to come -- as long as they've got their guys there. And all of the coaches are doing it right. They didn't have anyone leave on the offensive coaching staff this year and I'm pretty sure every other college team. It shows that everyone there is happy and that they've got a family going on."
A strong tie to FSU for Buchanan is offensive line coach Alex Atkins.
"It's amazing," he said of his relationship with Atkins. "He's one of my favorite coaches in college in general to be honest. He's a great guy. He's definitely helped me grow and mature a lot even if he's not my coach. But at the same time, he's a very smart guy and let me know a lot about my own game that I didn't know.
"He's a very personal guy. We also just talk about life if its not just football. He'll facetime me -- he doesn't call me, he facetimes me. Even if I'm just chilling or if I'm out, I always answer his call. We just talk about life going on and him and his kids and his dog and everything that he's got going on. He's just a great guy in general."
Buchanan says that FSU is a school standing out.
"Definitely one of my top schools right now," Buchanan said. "It's amazing here, I love it. Definitely see myself coming here."
He'll also see UCF (May 17), Clemson (May 31), Miami (June 14) and Penn State (June 21) for official visits in June.
Early August is when Buchanan intends to make his college decision.
