  • Let's face it - truckers in America have always been the backbone of our great country. They still are in modern times. On any given day, thousands of trucks traverse our highways and local roads, delivering goods and products on time so that businesses and consumers have what they need to live life. And while commercial trucking can be an incredibly lucrative way to make a living and put food on the table, it can also be risky and expensive.

Common Types of Big Rig Truck Insurance in Warner Robins, GA

At Independence Insurance Agency, we offer several types of insurance coverage for local, intermediate, and long-haul trucking needs. Here are just a few categories of trucking insurance coverage that our agency offers.

As the foundation of your insurance policy, liability coverage is required by law in most states in the U.S. It provides coverage for damage or injuries caused to properties or other people if your 18-wheeler is responsible for the crash. Without liability coverage, it's almost impossible to drive a truck or run a trucking business without major legal consequences.

Having physical damage coverage is an essential component that shouldn't be overlooked. This insurance is responsible for covering the expenses related to repairing or replacing your truck in situations such as accidents, theft, vandalism, and other damaging events. By having this coverage, you can rest assured that your business won't be affected significantly by unexpected incidents, and you can continue running your operations smoothly even in challenging times.

For trucking companies, the goods they transport are crucial to their operations. To protect these goods from damage, loss, or theft while in transit, cargo insurance is essential. This coverage provides much-needed peace of mind for both you and your clients, allowing you to reimburse clients for any losses sustained while protecting your reputation and brand identity.

Non-Trucking Liability Insurance is designed to cover property damage or bodily injury that may occur during personal time when the driver/truck is not under dispatch. This coverage can be applied with or without a trailer and is added to a commercial policy as an endorsement.

While Independence Insurance Agency has built a reputation of excellence in serving the needs of truckers, we also offer general liability. Also known as Truckers General Liability, this coverage insures for bodily injuries or property damage that happen due to business activities that are NOT the cause of operating a truck. It covers accidents that occur in parking lots, rest stops, also while loading or unloading. General liability can also cover losses related to theft and vandalism. Most brokers and shippers will require this coverage to work with you.

Bobtail insurance is a type of coverage that is comparable to non-trucking liability, which is designed to offer protection when driving a truck without a trailer attached. This is commonly referred to as "bobtailing." With bobtail insurance, the tractor is covered at all times, even when it is not attached to a trailer, regardless of whether or not the truck is under dispatch.

Trailer interchange insurance is a must-have if you're involved in a trailer interchange agreement. This essential coverage offers protection for trailers owned by other parties that you're using under a contractual agreement. It covers damages caused by collisions, fire, theft, and vandalism, providing assurance to all parties involved.

Three plus 3 Safe Driving Tips to

Lower the Cost of Truck Insurance in Warner Robins, GA

Keeping your drivers safe on the road is crucial not only for their own well-being but also for the safety of other motorists and the financial stability of your business. The Department of Labor has identified the trucking industry as one of the most hazardous sectors in the U.S. In fact, trucking and logistics fleets are known for their high injury and fatality rates. By improving how safely your truckers drive, you can help reduce expenses related to claim payouts, accidents, and insurance premium hikes.

Whether you own a large fleet or you're the owner and operator of a single rig, keep these safe driving tips in mind to help lower your insurance costs.

Implement Preventative Maintenance Plans

Ensuring the safety of your drivers begins with the safety of their vehicles. Trucks and tractor-trailers that do not receive regular maintenance, such as oil and brake pad changes, are more likely to experience breakdowns while on the road. Telematics devices provide real-time insight into engine and odometer data, including fault codes.

This information enables your mechanics to create comprehensive preventative maintenance schedules based on mileage, history of previous breakdowns, days, and more. Additionally, they can receive immediate notifications for critical fault codes. By implementing routine maintenance and proactive repair schedules, you can ensure that your vehicles are in top condition, minimizing the likelihood of breakdowns, which can help reduce the cost of trucker insurance.

Practice Defensive Driving

This approach aims to mitigate the risk of fatal crashes and injuries by proactively identifying and responding to potentially dangerous situations and making informed decisions while driving. By adopting defensive driving techniques, drivers can reduce their likelihood of accidents, thereby minimizing the need for expensive repairs, claim payouts, and increased insurance premiums.

Some of the easiest ways for you or your drivers to practice safe driving include:

  • Be Wary of Blind Spots: Operating a reefer or tractor-trailer means driving high off of the ground, which can make visibility limited, especially in blind spots. To check your blind spot, look over your shoulder and out of your windows while changing lanes.
  • Be Ready for Emergencies on the Road: It's important for drivers to be ready for unexpected situations when driving, especially during long trips. They should be equipped to handle emergencies such as poor driving conditions or big rig breakdowns.
  • Use the Three-Second Rule: Truck drivers should try to maintain a three-second gap between their vehicle and the car in front of them. This means that the truck driver should reach a certain point on the road three seconds after the car in front of them has passed that same point.
  • Always Use Right and Left Turn Indicators: It's important for drivers to always use their turn signals when changing lanes or exiting highways, even if they don't see any other cars around. This is not only required by law, but it also reduces the chances of accidents occurring on the road.

Find Ways to Prevent Distracted Driving

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), distracted driving is the primary reason behind truck driver accidents. Any activity that takes a driver's attention away from the road or the steering wheel is considered distracted driving. Distractions can come in various forms, such as eating while driving or gazing at a billboard outside the window. However, the most frequent form of distracted driving is the use of cellphones, specifically texting while driving.

Assuming you or your driver's rigs are equipped with dual-facing cameras, try reviewing footage of an unsafe driving incident. Coach your drivers on ways to correct their unsafe behaviors or look up ways to do so yourself if you're the one operating the big rig. The bottom line is that when your drivers aren't distracted, they drive safer. And when they drive safer, the cost of 18-wheeler insurance in cityname, state can be reduced.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — On Wednesday, Warner Robins Mayor LaRhonda Patrick held the State of the City at the Museum of Aviation.

"Our city is growing and progressing," she said.

Patrick's speech focused on the city's need to become more innovative. She wants to think not only of the city's present but also of its future. On Tuesday, the city celebrated its 81st birthday.

"The city of Warner Robins is the best place to live, work, and play in the state of Georgia," Patrick said.

Here are three major takeaways from the address.

One of the city's accomplishments was its budget increases.

The city's budget was $147.2 million in 2022 and $143.8 million in 2023. Patrick says the decrease was because the city cut out some wasteful spending.

The budget for 2024 is $165 million. Patrick said this increase came because they were able to find money and apply it to the budget. The city also saw an increase in revenue in the past year.

During her speech, Patrick said the city is doing well financially and making more money than it is spending.

Patrick said they were also working to hold more city events in the coming year. This comes with a continued focus on developing a downtown in Commercial Circle.

"Downtown is on its way, and there's nothing that's going to get in our way or stop it," Patrick said.

When Patrick came into office, she said Warner Robins owned less than an acre of the area in Commercial Circle. Now, the city owns 81% of the area.

Previously, the city only held one big event: The Warner Robins Independence Day Concert.

Now, the city has over 26 official events.

Patrick is hoping to make The International City Experience the next signature event for Warner Robins, in addition to the Independence Day Concert. The festival has been rescheduled to May 4.

In the coming years, Patrick says Warner Robins will be seeing Parks and Recreation upgrades, a Vietnam Veterans and Gulf War Veterans Memorial, and a new amphitheater.

Patrick says unlike the amphitheater in Macon, the Warner Robins venue would be open to free events.

She also discussed launching a community innovation lab to keep Warner Robins youth engaged and a community activities center.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The City of Warner Robins approved $500,000 at the city's Monday night city council meeting to be used towards their downtown development in Commercial Circle.

Leaders continue to push forward with plans for their "live, work, play" community.

"I see what you're doing for the downtown development. I really, really appreciate what you're doing," one community member shared at Monday night's meeting.

At many Warner Robins council meetings in 2024, the council has signed off on new Commercial Circle developments, and people in town are taking notice.

"I'm really excited to see what Warner Robins turns out to be in five to ten years," the man went on to share.

With rubble still fresh from a February demolition, the council voted Monday to purchase three new buildings in the circle. One property is on Manor Court, and the other two are on North Davis Drive.

"We have gotten areas that butt up to the Commercial Circle area that's not actually part of the official circle, so I try not to count those acreage in, but I think were up to 70% that we own now and counting," Mayor LaRhonda Patrick shared.

This year alone, the city has spent almost $1 million on downtown development. They purchased land for $500,000 Monday, land for $420,000 in February and spent about $62,000 in January for their February demolition.

Patrick says it's all within their $165 million 2024 budget.

"Majority of things that we've already acquired has come from funds that were put aside from previous years funds," Patrick shared.

She says they have SPLOST 2018 funds still left over that they plan to keep using.

Council also officially passed their design guidelines that will impact the entire Commercial Circle as well as streets headed towards Martin Luther King JR Boulevard and Duke Avenue.

"We want to plan for the entire area when it comes to the future development of our city, so that the area looks aesthetically pleasing," Patrick shared.

The guidelines set standards for public art and open space for the community to enjoy. The design guidelines would apply only to new developers who wish to make significant renovations.

Mayor Patrick says they have plans lined up for future demolition. You can expect the hammer to come down on the property on the Watson Boulevard and North Commercial Circle side next.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The city of Warner Robins is buying more buildings around Commercial Circle with plans to tear more buildings down in the future.

The demolitions are all part of the city's downtown development project and the next round of demolitions is Thursday.

On Tuesday night, city leaders got a look at design plans for what will come after.

"You only have one time. One chance to build it from the ground up. We want to make sure we do it right the first time," Patrick said.

The plans say all buildings need to be visually compatible, so all signs will be posted on the buildings near the entrance. There can not be monument signs.

All buildings must be at least two stories. They recommend that residential space is on the second to fifth floors. They say any workspace should be on the second or third floor.

All buildings would be natural colors made of brick or natural or manufactured stone.

They will also have 10-foot zones in front of businesses for seating, amenities and walking.

During Tuesday's meeting, Kate Hogan shared that some of the murals may not fit into the guidelines, but they'll work to find ways to include new art.

"Public art implemented into our district should be a priority," Hogan shared.

The folks at McDonald Ink say they're ready to see it.

"It will be a big change for everyone's career, I'm sure," Amanda Lucero said.

Lucero says she's originally from California, so this area, while charming, is boring. She says the plans will be more welcoming and add exposure.

"We pretty much bring our own people in, 'he say, she say' things like that. I would definitely like to reach more of that outside audience," Lucero said.

She says their chairs are already ready for customers.

"I look forward to seeing y'all," she said.

Now, Mayor LaRhonda Patrick says there will be businesses that won't want to change their look and that's okay.

"But, if you have any type of major renovation, where you're putting funds into your property we'll have the guidelines in for your property," she said.

Patrick says they are also working on a program to get displaced tenants a new home to serve during the time of construction.

Mayor Patrick says she expects the plan will go before the city council for approval in the coming weeks.

You don't have to wait for the renovations to visit McDonald Ink. You can reach out to their artists on Instagram @tattoos.by.mandi and @lance.waid.

The International City Experience is March 2 at Perkins Feild. They are still accepting applications for vendors and talent.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Warner Robins is hoping to live up to their nickname. The International City Experience is coming to Perkins Field in Warner Robins on March 2.

They're still looking for food vendors, dancers, bands or other vendors to represent the diversity within the community.

Potwah's Kitchen is the newest Jamaican restaurant on the block.

"Moving here, we noticed that we had a different type of cuisine, but our culture wasn't standing out. Normally, if you go to New York or Florida you will see our flag, so we were like okay this is a good location for us to bring our culture here, with the spice and the great flavor," Diamond Cooke said.

Located on Watson Boulevard, across from City Hall, Cooke says the international was the best place to bring all that Jamaica has to offer.

"We are the land of food and water and spice, because we are out of one many one people, so we are good on our herbs and spice," Cooke said.

They have all the staples from oxtails, to jerk chicken, curry chicken, beef patties, plantains and more.

Now, Warner Robins wants to put a spotlight on all the diverse cultures with the International City Experience.

Currently, the city has over 40 vendors.

"We have anywhere from Irish dancing to a reggae band. We have Hispanic Folklore dancing, and henna art. Japanese crafts," Visit Warner Robins Marketing Manger Lera Moncrief said.

Warner Robins hasn't had an international festival since the '90s, so they are very excited to bring it back.

"Not everyone can travel and experience the history first hand so having the International City Experience right on our doorstep, is a thrilling chance for residents to connect with their roots, and for visitors to embark on a global journey without leaving town," she says.

Moncreif says they are accepting vendors until Feb. 9. They are open to all types of cultural vendors, but would like to see more businesses that offer Asian and Mediterranean cuisine.

"We're not going to turn anyone away, so we're just going to keep adding and we can add a second stage," she said.
