Commercial Truck Insurance in Washington, NC

  • Let's face it - truckers in America have always been the backbone of our great country. They still are in modern times. On any given day, thousands of trucks traverse our highways and local roads, delivering goods and products on time so that businesses and consumers have what they need to live life. And while commercial trucking can be an incredibly lucrative way to make a living and put food on the table, it can also be risky and expensive.
  • Whether you're the owner of a fleet, an independent trucker, or have a business that uses big rigs to transport goods, you need commercial trucking insurance to protect you and your client's investments, shield you from liability, and more.
  • That's where working with a reliable truck insurance agency comes into play. Unfortunately, for many commercial truck insurance providers, serving the needs of truckers is low on the proverbial totem pole. At Independence Insurance Agency, nothing could be further from the truth.

Common Types of Big Rig Truck Insurance in Washington, NC

At Independence Insurance Agency, we offer several types of insurance coverage for local, intermediate, and long-haul trucking needs. Here are just a few categories of trucking insurance coverage that our agency offers.

As the foundation of your insurance policy, liability coverage is required by law in most states in the U.S. It provides coverage for damage or injuries caused to properties or other people if your 18-wheeler is responsible for the crash. Without liability coverage, it's almost impossible to drive a truck or run a trucking business without major legal consequences.

Having physical damage coverage is an essential component that shouldn't be overlooked. This insurance is responsible for covering the expenses related to repairing or replacing your truck in situations such as accidents, theft, vandalism, and other damaging events. By having this coverage, you can rest assured that your business won't be affected significantly by unexpected incidents, and you can continue running your operations smoothly even in challenging times.

For trucking companies, the goods they transport are crucial to their operations. To protect these goods from damage, loss, or theft while in transit, cargo insurance is essential. This coverage provides much-needed peace of mind for both you and your clients, allowing you to reimburse clients for any losses sustained while protecting your reputation and brand identity.

Non-Trucking Liability Insurance is designed to cover property damage or bodily injury that may occur during personal time when the driver/truck is not under dispatch. This coverage can be applied with or without a trailer and is added to a commercial policy as an endorsement.

While Independence Insurance Agency has built a reputation of excellence in serving the needs of truckers, we also offer general liability. Also known as Truckers General Liability, this coverage insures for bodily injuries or property damage that happen due to business activities that are NOT the cause of operating a truck. It covers accidents that occur in parking lots, rest stops, also while loading or unloading. General liability can also cover losses related to theft and vandalism. Most brokers and shippers will require this coverage to work with you.

Bobtail insurance is a type of coverage that is comparable to non-trucking liability, which is designed to offer protection when driving a truck without a trailer attached. This is commonly referred to as "bobtailing." With bobtail insurance, the tractor is covered at all times, even when it is not attached to a trailer, regardless of whether or not the truck is under dispatch.

Trailer interchange insurance is a must-have if you're involved in a trailer interchange agreement. This essential coverage offers protection for trailers owned by other parties that you're using under a contractual agreement. It covers damages caused by collisions, fire, theft, and vandalism, providing assurance to all parties involved.

Three plus 3 Safe Driving Tips to

Lower the Cost of Truck Insurance in Washington, NC

Keeping your drivers safe on the road is crucial not only for their own well-being but also for the safety of other motorists and the financial stability of your business. The Department of Labor has identified the trucking industry as one of the most hazardous sectors in the U.S. In fact, trucking and logistics fleets are known for their high injury and fatality rates. By improving how safely your truckers drive, you can help reduce expenses related to claim payouts, accidents, and insurance premium hikes.

Whether you own a large fleet or you're the owner and operator of a single rig, keep these safe driving tips in mind to help lower your insurance costs.

Implement Preventative Maintenance Plans

Ensuring the safety of your drivers begins with the safety of their vehicles. Trucks and tractor-trailers that do not receive regular maintenance, such as oil and brake pad changes, are more likely to experience breakdowns while on the road. Telematics devices provide real-time insight into engine and odometer data, including fault codes.

This information enables your mechanics to create comprehensive preventative maintenance schedules based on mileage, history of previous breakdowns, days, and more. Additionally, they can receive immediate notifications for critical fault codes. By implementing routine maintenance and proactive repair schedules, you can ensure that your vehicles are in top condition, minimizing the likelihood of breakdowns, which can help reduce the cost of trucker insurance.

Practice Defensive Driving

This approach aims to mitigate the risk of fatal crashes and injuries by proactively identifying and responding to potentially dangerous situations and making informed decisions while driving. By adopting defensive driving techniques, drivers can reduce their likelihood of accidents, thereby minimizing the need for expensive repairs, claim payouts, and increased insurance premiums.

Some of the easiest ways for you or your drivers to practice safe driving include:

  • Be Wary of Blind Spots: Operating a reefer or tractor-trailer means driving high off of the ground, which can make visibility limited, especially in blind spots. To check your blind spot, look over your shoulder and out of your windows while changing lanes.
  • Be Ready for Emergencies on the Road: It's important for drivers to be ready for unexpected situations when driving, especially during long trips. They should be equipped to handle emergencies such as poor driving conditions or big rig breakdowns.
  • Use the Three-Second Rule: Truck drivers should try to maintain a three-second gap between their vehicle and the car in front of them. This means that the truck driver should reach a certain point on the road three seconds after the car in front of them has passed that same point.
  • Always Use Right and Left Turn Indicators: It's important for drivers to always use their turn signals when changing lanes or exiting highways, even if they don't see any other cars around. This is not only required by law, but it also reduces the chances of accidents occurring on the road.

Find Ways to Prevent Distracted Driving

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), distracted driving is the primary reason behind truck driver accidents. Any activity that takes a driver's attention away from the road or the steering wheel is considered distracted driving. Distractions can come in various forms, such as eating while driving or gazing at a billboard outside the window. However, the most frequent form of distracted driving is the use of cellphones, specifically texting while driving.

Assuming you or your driver's rigs are equipped with dual-facing cameras, try reviewing footage of an unsafe driving incident. Coach your drivers on ways to correct their unsafe behaviors or look up ways to do so yourself if you're the one operating the big rig. The bottom line is that when your drivers aren't distracted, they drive safer. And when they drive safer, the cost of 18-wheeler insurance in cityname, state can be reduced.

Shoppers are only asked to donate two dollars a month. The store was the creation of Bishop Samuel Jones, Junior head of Purpose of God Ministries.

“When the recession hit, I stepped outside of my headquarters building, and I asked the lord why can’t some things be free? I had no idea that all this would birth into existence in less than eight months,” said Jones.

“We do solicit help. Any distributor out they’re wanna give us free food to help us out, produce, also furnishings. Always we can furniture clothes it does matter what you have if its a bathroom door or if it’s a commode people need it,” said Jones.

The help doesn’t stop at Miracle Meals. Just down the road, you’ll find the Share Shop, where you can find anything from plates to clothes and even furniture. It’s a true Share Shop as community members not only find new things for themselves but donate what they don’t need anymore.

“Matter of fact, I brought stuff yesterday and today and donated it for folks to be able to use it,” said Shopper, Verna Davis.

Jones says he wouldn’t want it any other way.

“This is my joy. This is my paycheck to see people get what they need and be happy,” said Jones.

The Share Shop is open every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Miracle Meals is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cary, N.C. (07/21/2023) – The Washington Spirit will face the North Carolina Courage in both sides’ fourth 2023 UKG NWSL Challenge Cup match of 2023. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. EDT at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC and will broadcast nationally on Paramount+ for fans across the United States. International viewers can stream the match on NWSLSoccer.com.

The Spirit

Coming off a much-deserved weeklong break, the Spirit will play its first match in two weeks. Last time out – a July 8 match versus San Diego Wave FC – resulted in only one point for the Spirit, as the team drew, 2-2.

Leading in the 90th minute, the Spirit surrendered an equalizing goal to the Wave only seconds before stoppage time. Ashley Hatch scored on a penalty kick in the 23rd minute, extending the club’s record of goals scored in eight consecutive regular season road matches. Hatch is now tied with Kerolin for the second-most goals (8) in the NWSL this regular season and became the first player in league history to score four road penalty kicks in a season. Her penalty kick makes her seven for seven from the spot during her Spirit career, breaking a club record for the most consecutive successful penalty kicks.

The Spirit has now scored multiple goals in four of its last six matches in all competitions. Prior to its current stretch, the Spirit had four multi-goal matches in its previous 15 games in all competitions dating back to last season.

Nicole Barnhart, filling in for a World Cup-bound Aubrey Kingsbury, also came up huge for the Sprit, tying her career-best seven second half saves, negating a number of San Diego goal attempts.

The Spirit last faced the Courage in its most recent Challenge Cup match on June 14 at Audi Field, which ended in similar fashion to the Spirit’s most recent game versus San Diego. The Courage scored a goal in the second minute of second half stoppage time which lifted the visiting side over the Spirit.

That fateful goal made the difference between a three-way tie for most points in the East Division of the UKG NWSL Challenge Cup and sole possession of third place for the Spirit. The Spirit sits at 1-2-0 (3 points) in the standings but remains only two points behind the leading Courage (5 points).

The Spirit has not had a great history against North Carolina or in road Challenge Cup matches. The Courage is the only East Division team that the Spirit has never beaten (0-3-2) in the Challenge Cup since the inception of the tournament. Additionally, the Spirit has only won two road matches in Challenge Cup history.

Following Saturday’s match, the Spirit returns to Audi Field to host NJ/NY Gotham FC in another Challenge Cup match. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. EDT on Friday, July 28.

The Opposition

The league’s top team, the Courage is coming off its first loss in five matches (all competitions) following a 1-2 defeat to Angel City FC. In the match, the Courage fought off 13 first half shots from Angel City. The defeat marked the first time the Courage has lost when scoring first. Frankie Tagilaferri assisted on the goal and has now notched two assists in her last four matches in all competitions including one in the Courage’s most recent match. Those are the only two goal contributions of Tagliaferri’s NWSL career.

The red-hot Courage hadn’t conceded multiple goals in over two months preceding this match (since May 6) and its streak of shutout minutes ended at 460, the fourth-longest in NWSL history.

Not only is the Courage sitting at the top of the NWSL table, but the team also occupies the top position in the East Division of the 2023 UKG NWSL Challenge Cup. Undefeated, and with a 1-0-2 record (5 points), the Courage has the fewest number of points of any Challenge Cup division leader. The team’s sole Challenge Cup victory this season came against the Spirit.

The Courage is unbeaten all-time at home in Challenge Cup play (W4, D3) with its lone home game in 2023 being a 1-1 draw with Gotham FC. North Carolina is joined by OL Reign as the only teams without a home loss in the Challenge Cup.

Notably, the Courage has taken the regular season by storm, notching a string of four league wins in a row prior to its most recent loss. The team leads the league in passing accuracy (81.5), possession (59.31) and successful passes (6,151). The Courage has logged over 1,000 more successful passes than the next closest team — Portland (5,062). Ironically, the Spirit ranks last in two of these three statistics — passing accuracy (70.05) and passes successful (3468).

Additionally, defender Kaleigh Kurtz, forward Kerolin and goalkeeper Casey Murphy all earned Best XI honors for the month of June. Kurtz is the only one of the three remaining with the Courage during the World Cup window.

Next up, the North Carolina Courage hosts the Orlando Pride in another Challenge Cup match on Saturday, July 29 at 7 p.m.

WASHINGTON, N.C. (WITN) - A mother in one eastern Carolina city is concerned about a mold issue she says has been spreading inside her and her kids’ apartment.

White, black, and fuzzy grey mold can be seen growing rapidly throughout Nyesha Lacy’s apartment in Washington.

“I just want to know, why is this happening to me?” Lacy said.

Lacy currently lives at Brittany Place Apartments off Pactolus Highway, where she says mold and maggots have completely taken over her apartment.

“No one should have to live in this certain condition,” Lacy said.

Lacy says she noticed her apartment had a mold issue months ago, but says conditions worsened after apartment maintenance ripped out a wall and roof that was once leaking.

She believes the leakage created moisture, which led to unwanted mold.

“I lost clothes, I lost furniture,” Lacy said. “I lost everything that belonged to us because of this mold situation.”

Out of options, Lacy says she desperately called the apartment manager to see why nothing had been done but didn’t get the response she hoped for.

Lacy shared a video recording of the conversation between her and the apartment manager.

The apartment manager can be heard saying, “I don’t have answers for you, I don’t. I’m not going to invite you over to my house.”.

Lacy is a mother to three children under the age of six who are now without beds due to mold getting on the mattresses. She believes the apartment heads don’t care about their health.

“If you get your management in order, and get the situation resolved,” Lacy said. “It would be a much better place and environment.”

WITN called the apartment manager twice, left a voicemail and even went to the office but never heard back from anyone regarding Lacy’s apartment mold.

Lacy wants something to be done soon because she’s asked several agencies like Social Services and the City of Washington for help, but has been told they can’t do much.

Lacy believes other people at the apartment complex could be dealing with mold as well, but may be afraid to speak up.
